Fishing Silver Strand State Park

Saturday I'll be meeting the in-laws at Silver Strand State Park in San Diego. I was wondering if I should take my Hobie Outback out through the surf and fish the area? I've only fished the bays so any advice on how far to go out and what to use would be GREATLY appreciated.

Silvier Strand is not a good place to learn surf launches as the surf is usually pretty big. Jack
