protect from theft off vehicle

I'll be traveling and will stay at motels/hotels at night. I worry about my Hobie getting stolen off the car. It's locked to the racks, which are also locked, but a bolt cutter would easily release it. Any suggestions; alarms or sleep with it??

I've learned that there is a padlock that sounds an alarm when disturbed. Just hope a bird doesn't land on it!!
