I was leaving the bait barge in Newport Bay and two of the big boys were playing grab a.. swimming toward the barge. One shouldered the other right up on the bow of my Hobie - slid off before I went clear under. Almost had to go in for pants change.

It put a lot of water inside through the front hatch which was not tight.

Anyone who thinks they are cute and should be completely protected should have one at home for a week to feed and care for in their tub or pool.

This was taken in the same area on the 26th. I wonder if it is the same guy? As I was shooting this photo a guy with a couple of little kids on a rental Kayak comes charging up to this boat to show his kids what a Sea Lion looks like up close. He must have thought he ws at the zoo. He was not happy with me when I pointed out the fact that this thing was a wild animal and although calm for the moment he was capable of moving faster than he could imagine and this Sea Lion would not take the safety of his children into consideration if he thought they were a threat and would flip that Malibu II he was paddling with no effort.

He may not have been happy with you, but you probably did him a huge favor even if he didn't like it. I think some people look at their faces and see the dog they grew up with and don't look at the fact they are a marine animal just like other fish, sharks and the like. Talk to you soon,
