Rickey,
Thanks for the detailed report, they are always appreciated. Do you have a Hobie now?? Which Model?? Also, you used a 9wt for inshore. If you were gonna try for bass n butts, would you go with a 8wt or 9wt or either? And yes, I still prefer my float tube for fly fishing , although the MK X-Factor I brought up to the delta did work pretty good with the deck layout it has.

Thanks in advance,
Perry

Hey Perry, Sorry about the long post, I can go on. Actually I have a couple of Hobies now. I have an Outback Mirage and the Hobie Adventure. The Adventure is my new favorite Kayak. It's like a Tarpon with pedales.
What do you mean you don't flyfish from a kayak!!!!!
The Pacific Ocean at your door step and your not casting flies in it.
You need looking after. I'm coming down there.
As far as weight goes. Far bass and butts Nothing smaller than a 9wt.
I''m actually thinking a bit bigger.

Thumbs up FF

Rickey,
I have tossed a few flies from the kayak, but haven't gotten any bass or hali's as of yet. How does the Hobie with the peddle assy compare to the others like the X-Factor for when you're stripping line? Do you use a basket or sit sideways or ?? to keep the line out of the peddles.

I have a ok 8wt that I have used nearshore, but was thinking that it may be a bit skimpy for something of real size and was considering a 9 or maybe a 10wt. I FF'd from my old FnD at Cherry Beach for hali's, but didn't hook up although the bite was slow when we were out there. If you were going for them, what type of line/head would you use? I was using a Type lll, but maybe a length of leadcore would be better for working 30' or less.

Hey Perry, the peddles are actually up far enough to where with proper line control I can cast just fine without tangling with them. The only time I use a striping basket is in a canoe.
I use a powell 9wt for bass and the salt. I use a commercial shooting head made by teeny about 350 grain . It cast s just fine. LC 13 is just to much of a chore cast, it takes all the fun out of it. I hooked a Ling Cod by the kelp beds at a tounament in Santa Cruze that looked about 3ft, I fought it until it was within a few feet of my yak. It bent my rod to where the tiptop was even with the rod handle.I thought sure my rod was going to explode. If not for the fear of breaking my rod I might have caught the fish. I'm going bigger I'm not sure how much.
