My buddy Steve has a 30-foot or so power boat and will be the mothership for the trip.

Anybody know if there is camping on the back side of Catalina at Little Harbor (next to Shark Harbor) or Silver Canyon Landing? I think the rest of the way around the island there are suitable campsites / anchorages.

Assuming Steve brings his boat for the whole trip, I may just "camp" on his boat. It may be that he will only be able to provide escort service to and from Catalina, though.

Anyone have a sense of how long it would take to kayak around the island (Avalon to Avalon, for example)?

From the maps and other information so far it looks like 2 very long days or 3 typical days would do it in reasonable conditions.

I am hoping to fish and dive a little so a 5 or 6 day circumnavigation looks very "doable."

Other information? Thoughts? Thanks

Thumbs up Re: Catalina trip planning

Don,
Heres a few more links to help plan your trip. I'm not sure about the time needed to circumnavigate the island, as I have never done or looked into it. I would probably just find a nice place to camp at and fish and relax, so I'm no help,LOL.

Heres a few that may be helpful:

http://www.catalina.com/CIX.html

http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/t...i_kayaking.php

http://www.ecatalina.com/see_do_ky.cfm

http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/avalon/Camping.php

http://www.southwindkayaks.com/library/catalina2.html

The link above to Southwind Kayaks page is worth a read. At the bottom of the page, it has contact numbers for the islands Visitor Information Center, and the Chamber of Commerce which should be able to provide all contact information for businesses on the island and maybe others also. Hope this helps a bit and gives you some stuff to read. Talk to you soon,
Perry
