When my old headlamp quit working, it was time to upgrade to a better quality product. After looking at several different manufacturers products, I decided on the Princeton Tec brand, and the Solo model. Several fellow kayak fishermen I know use their Matrix models and are very happy with them. The Matrix model comes with a 3 LED light fixture, and a standard one aswell. I recently got to use a LED flashlight, and noticed the light had a slight blue tinge to it. Standard bulbs emit a white light, and that is what I was looking for.
Some of the features include waterproof, NOT water resistant to 500ft. It's made in the USA. It comes with two reflectors, one for a narrow beam, the
other for a wider beam. It comes with two different types on bulbs depending on the light you need. You can either use a high intensity Halogen bulb, or
a PR-4 standard flashlight krypton bulb. I like the fact that it uses a standard bulb. If I am on a trip, and the bulb needs to be replaced, I think I
stand a better chance of getting a PR-4 flashlight bulb at the cornet market rather than a 3 LED fixture. If you do want to have a LED light later,
you can purchase the LED fixture, and use it in the Solo headlamp. You would have all 3 types of lights available to you. LED, Halogen and Krypton.
It is very easy to use. You turn the bulb housing to turn it on-off. There is no protruding switch to get caught on things or broken off. The headband is wide, and has very good amount of adjustment. With batteries, the unit weighs about 4.5oz, so it is very light. It is comfortable whether worn directly on your head, or on a hat or helmet. I can highly
recommend this headlamp, or any others of the Princeton Tec family. A high quality headlamp, and a very good value for the money. The Solo model goes for about $25. For night fishing or hooping for lobsters, they can help make the experience more enjoyable. PerryC |
