Robert Sez: Mikey Darden of Deland FL, with a sub legal sized ling cod, taken off the Nagahut Rocks, about 45 miles from Homer, Alaska. Mikey "guest" deckhands for Winter King Charters, and at season's end, skipper and crew loaded our yaks on the f/v Winter King, and headed south. The weather was stunning: crystal clear and absolutely flat seas. Kayaks and mother ship would drift across the rocks, hoping to hook up a big one, then the mother ship would tow the yaks back up current for another drift. Mid day we were joined by a humpback whale. No large lings from the yaks that day, but the skipper of the mother ship landed one over 50 pounds. Maybe next year!. |
