We received these photos from a visitor whom uses a recreational model of a Perception kayak to fish from. In the upper photo, you can see that he used one of the cutting boards you hear so much about to fabricate a plate that would fit under the lip the cockpit has running around it. Alot of the recreational kayaks will have a lip such as this around the cockpit, and they are often over half an inch wide which allows you to anchor a piece of plastic or other material in the groove to hold your fish finder like shown here, or perhaps a rod holder and a compass. The "Groove" I'm referring to is created by the curvature of the lip. |

Below, you can see an idea taken further. What we have is a plastic cutting board with handles (Black) on each end. I have a smaller version for cutting items on when surf fishing. This is a larger one and they are about $10 or so. ALOT cheaper that a $60 mounting bar. It looks like it may have been heated up and curved to match the curvature of the kayak hull, and held in place with deck rigging. Depending on what you were fishing for, the deck rigging may hold everything in place, or you may need to beef it up a bit somehow. It's an excellent idea non the less. |
