Hello Perry, I just finished installing a 4" Beckson deck plate in my Mainstream Jazz which is no big deal but I wanted a dry and secure place to put my keys, wallet, cellphone, etc. As it turns out, a large plastic peanut butter jar will just fit under the screw out deck plate lid. I attached the lid to the deck plate lid with a single screw into the provided screw mount in the deck plate. I did back the jaw lid with a piece of styrofoam just to fill out the back of the deck plate. It works great and I still have access to the interior of my boat.
